Palm oil and tomato stew stains don't have to be permanent. Follow these five simple steps with Ecowash washing powder to get your clothes clean again.
Jollof, light soup, stew: tomato and palm oil stains happen in every home. The good news is that most of them come out if you act quickly and use the right steps.
What you need
- Ecowash washing powder
- Cold water
- A spoon or blunt knife
- An old toothbrush or soft brush
Step by step
- Scrape off the extra. Use a spoon to lift any stew from the cloth. Don't rub, because rubbing pushes the stain deeper.
- Rinse from the back with cold water. Hold the cloth under cold running water, stain side down, so the water pushes the stain out. Avoid hot water, which can set the stain.
- Make a paste. Mix a small amount of Ecowash powder with a few drops of water and spread it over the stain.
- Brush gently and wait. Work the paste in with a soft brush, then leave it for 15–20 minutes.
- Wash as normal. Wash the item with Ecowash as usual, then check the stain before drying. If you can still see it, repeat steps 3–4. Heat from the sun or an iron can make a stain permanent.
Quick tips
- Treat it fast. A fresh stain is much easier to remove than one that has dried.
- For white cotton, a little bleach in the wash can help. Always check the care label first.
- Palm oil stains respond well to an extra soak in warm, soapy water before washing.
